Fishing Report

Lake Oconee is 1 1/2 foot below normal levels with a water temperature of 58 to 62 degrees and dropping. Most of the lake is clear but you can find a little stain in some spots.

Black Bass fishing is fair. Your best bet is to continue using a shaky head worm around the docks, a very good method for catching numbers of fish and you may also hook a really good sized one. Using light line, such as 6lb test with a small jig head. Use a zoom watermelon or watermelon candy worm dipping your bait in the JJ Magic which can really help you catch more fish. The spinnerbait bite has been on one day and off the next but is something to try. Fish the spinnerbait right up onto any rip-rap you come across. Work the area leading into the small pockets and coves around the lake. Work a short way into these areas then back out as these fish are moving back on into the main lake.

Crappie fishing is good. The Sugar Creek bridge has been holding a lot of fish. Using live bait or casting small jigs like a Jiffy Jig have been working very well. There area also a lot of fish being caught at the mouth of Sugar Creek and also out in front of the cove where Reynolds Marina is located. Look for the other boats around the lake and troll in these areas. Using the Jiffy Jig tipped with a live minnow is working well. You are not catching a large number of fish but the ones you do catch are of a really good size.
